Alkalai School

In the Summer of 2007, we packed our car full of instruments and drove to an old one-room schoolhouse nestled in a remote corner of South Dakota’s Black Hills.

We spent a week recording music. The noises we couldn’t make with what we brought were provided to us – by the curiosities buried in local secondhand shops and the howls echoing across the valley at night.

We had never even talked about making music together before.

This is our record of what happened that week.

Four songs are available here as high-quality mp3s for download, but we ask that you please donate whatever you feel is fair. Click on the links below to listen or right-click or Ctrl-click and ‘Save As’ to download. Click the ‘Add to Cart’ button to donate.

We set up an Alkalai School myspace page. Be our friend. We will not spam your page with sleazy promo.

Until we get the pictures into our twofellswoops gallery, you can take a phototour of our trip at andreasteves.com/southdakota.htm.

Please leave any comments below, or email us at alkalaischool ***at***twofellswoops ***dot**com. If there’s enough interest, we’ll release some more songs from the batch we recorded.

Regardless of interest, we’re already planning on going back to South Dakota to do it again. Why? I think it was summed up best by a gentleman who previewed one of the sample records we had for sale at the Shadow Art Fair. He spent a few minutes listening, took off the headphones, smiled and said, “You guys had fun.”

that guy totally meant “you guys and your kazoo solos are weird.”

I know his comment was somewhat condescending, but I still take it as a compliment. How often can you hear the fun being had?
